Intervju: Trevor Bremner - brinner för hockey, mer än de flesta

Ni som har följt oss känner numera igen namnet Trevor Bremner, Namnet tillhör en 32 årig kanadensare som spelar hockey i Säffle HC (division 2). Trevor jobbar som snickare hemma i Kanada, men tar ledigt under hockeysäsongen för att kunna spela hockey i Europa. Först tänkte jag: ”Ah, en kille som reser runt världen, spelar hockey, träffar damer och dricker en och annan öl”, men så verkar direkt inte fallet vara. Istället verkar det vara en kille som brinner för hockey, mer än de flesta.

Hockeyhockeyhockey.se har hur som helst fått en pratstund med Trevor, som för övrigt avslutade intervju-mejlet med följade fras:

Tell me about the last couple of years, the hockey parts, how long have you been doing this and why do you keep doing it?
– I have played in Austria in a league called the Oberliga and Elite for the last 2 years. It is very good hockey. Many good import's but my first season was better then my 2nd. My team the 2nd year just did not work well together.

– Due to the fact my first year in Austria, i was playing against a coach that now coaches in Gislaveds SK. Svein-Ove Nermo very good man and smart coach. I knew that i wanted to play in Sweden. So when i played against him. I wanted him to notice me. So, that season i got 2 hat tricks against Svein's team.

– We made good friends and he helped me come here. The wonderful Christian Högberg signed me this summer after number of phone calls to Canada. Christian is such a great manager, I have very much respect for him and so does the entire club. He does very good work, and I personally like to thank him!

– From the age I was 21 years old I have played in the 3rd level to the NHL in the UHL and CHL now the called the IHL.

– So about 10 years, i have been playing hockey all over the world. I keep playing because it's all about your body. If your strong and your mind is stronger you can play as long as you can. Also, the love for the game and to help youth. As you maybe know, I work side by side with the very famous and very smart player Sergei Fokin here in Säffle.

I understand you have a girlfriend, how's that working out with your way of life right now?
– Well, we say in English: "There are up's and down's". Of course it's not easy But, only time will tell. She knows this is my life. I hope she can come here. But, we have to see. Right now, my mind is thinking about my next game not my girlfriend or any women in that matter.

How hard do you have to work back in Canada to afford this way of life?
– In any job I do in life I work very, very hard all the time. In Toronto I work construction. Building houses, floors, walls, doors, I do everything. So we work long, long hours and early in the morning. Then I go to the gym and then to the rink. So I'm busy and tired but that's life.

What have you been doing, besides playing hockey, in all the countries and in all the clubs you've been representing?
– Most of the time, I have been coaching all the age's to the Jr levels, over 2000 youth in my travels. But, I was player head coach in Madrid Spain in the Super Spain League.
– Other then hockey, I have been sight seeing and getting to know my players off ice.

What qualities on and outside the rink do you bring to Säffle HC?
– If you where to talk with any player or fan here in Säffle or any team I played on. They would tell you the most important qualities that I bring outside the rink are my positive attitude. I will take the time to talk with everyone. A lot of player's come to me and talk about their home life, Girlfriend life, hockey life, School life. I take a lot of pride in being a true team player!

What have you done so far, in Säffle and Värmland?
– I have been hunting and soon fishing. I love fishing so much! In Canada I fish all the time. I really have had a wonderful time in Sweden so far.
– I respect all the team's and players. I truly thank you all for welcoming me in your league and see you all on the ice!
